Nicky Grant |
After training in graphic design and spending the most of the 90s working in graphic design management in London, I was still dabbling in painting, typography and calligraphy and found myself itching to get back to more hands-on designing and making. I had also been doing sugarcraft as a hobby for many years, finding I had flair and talent for it, and was greatly inspired by new trends in cake design by Australian and American cake makers as well as interior design, textiles and modern florists. We took the break and moved to Cornwall where I came across a wonderful advanced patisserie course. I loved it and also found a new passion in working with Belgian chocolate. The natural progression was to bring all this together and my Cornish husband and I set up Nicky Grant Cakes, making a range of wedding and celebration cakes. I am very particular about my ingredients and, apart from the Belgian couverture chocolate I use in my cakes, I source as much from local and organic producers as possible. I was struggling to know which way to turn when I came across Plough to Plate on the internet. They have exactly what I need and its great to get produce from one supplier who I know in turn support many a varied farm and local producer in Cornwall. With their help I am able to make the most delicious Belgian chocolate cake as well as other great flavours of cake, with a whole range of different decorations and designs. The choice is endless. |
